From July 1, Niclas Fock is appointed Director of WASP Research Arenas (WARA). He replaces Torbjörn Lundahl who will remain as advisor until the end of the year.

The WASP Research Arenas are operating in the subsection between academia, trade and industry and societal actors. An environment Niclas is most familiar with.

– I believe my experiences from leading organizations that are close to both academic and industrial research and innovation, together with the large network this have brought, will be the greatest contribution in my new role as WARA Director. And of course, my strong interest in AI will also be of value.

Niclas has for many years worked in, as well as lead, organizations that are strong in research and innovation, including but not limited to Ericsson, Saab, Combitech and AI Sweden. During recent years he has also come in contact with the WASP Research Arenas.

– I have met the WASP research arenas through different roles in recent years and seen how they are creating connections between academia and industry. It is very inspiring to work with shortening the distance between research and industry and to see how it creates value. This is becoming more and more important in order to tackle the many societal challenges we face today.

During spring 2023, he has deepened his connection to WASP and the research arenas, acting as WARA co-director.

– It is a vivid and highly competent team I’m joining in WASP. We are entering a very exciting phase to on-board more researchers to the research arenas. I also see ideas for additional arenas in the future. There are fantastic possibilities ahead to strengthen the arenas and make even tighter connections with industry.

– This fall we are arranging the WASP Industry Days which will be a springboard for the coming work, and an opportunity to gather industry partners. I’m really looking forward to keep building up the WASP Research Arenas and to make a contribution to the academic community as well as to Swedish industry and society.
