PhD student position at the Department of Automatic Control at Lund University.

Project and subject description

We are now recruiting a PhD student for a project where we will explore the use of AI in the cloud to dynamically extend the capabilities of unmanned vessels. The goal of this project is to develop methods and tools to support dynamic offloading of demanding compute and AI functionality from limited connected devices to the cloud. We will work within the WASP research arena on public safety (WARA-PS) using real autonomous boats and drones. The work will also include hands-on activities on cloud services, 5G networks and robotics applications.

The core research questions are about how and when one can place resource-heavy control and machine learning applications in the cloud, and how such applications should be designed. The position is suitable for you if you have a background in and are interested in control, embedded systems, real-time systems, robotics, and/or cloud technology.
