The establishment of the WASP Research Arena AI Training and Inference Compute at Scale (WARA AI-TRICS) will bring researchers and industry into close collaboration, focusing on real‑world data, systems, and challenges where both advanced research and powerful computing capacity are required to drive progress.
Three key areas have been identified as particularly important:

- AI at Scale, applying AI to massive industrial datasets
- New methods, such as physics‑informed AI
New Swedish Large Language Models
In February 2026, the Swedish government together with Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation held a press conference to launch a new project to develop new large language models for the Swedish language. The project name is SE.LLMA and it is placed within WARA AI-TRICS.
The SE.LLMA project will train new Swedish language models that deliver high-quality performance in Swedish and will be evaluated on how well such models address Sweden’s culture, history, societal principles, and norms. The work is being carried out with a clear commitment to safeguarding copyright.
The project is presently in its initial preparatory phase, during which some early interest has already been registered.
