For the first time, three summer schools were arranged for PhD students in WASP. In total, almost 80 PhD students participated in lectures, workshops and social activities.
WASP would like to thank all summer school attendees, presenters, and organizers for their participation. We look forward to an exciting fall semester!
WARA-PS Summer School
In June, the WASP Research Arena for Public Safety (WARA-PS) organized its first summer school. The participants were given the opportunity to get both theoretical and hands-on experience of heterogeneous autonomous systems (of systems) and field robotics research methodology through interaction with the WARA-PS Core system.
The WARA-PS summer school included study visits to SAAB The Rainforest and Combitech Reality Labs, allowing the students to explore the industrial applications of research. Furthermore, the participants visited the LiU Robot Lab where they were given an insight into the research being done, as well as the technology and hardware used by the research team.
WASP Summer School of Human Communication
The WASP Summer School of Human Communication, organized by WARA Media & Language in August, included lectures by experienced WASP researchers and industry leaders from companies such as King, SEED Electronic Arts (EA), and NVIDIA.
In addition to the lectures, the attendees got to engage in practical sessions in state-of-the-art technologies, including generative language models, text-to-speech systems, and gesture generation. In collaborative group activities, the students used all their new knowledge to craft compelling short stories narrated by 3D avatars. The week concluded with presentations of the assignments in the 3D dome at Norrköping Visualization Center C.
WASP Community Building Summer School 2023
The WASP Community Building Summer School is organized annually and invites all PhD students new to the WASP Graduate School. This year, WASP PhD students from Class 2023 spent the week getting introduced to the program and to each other at Norrköping Visualization Center C. During a one-day study visit to Linköping, they visited the National Supercomputer Centre at Linköping University, participated in a Diversity and Inclusion workshop, and listened to presentations on industrial collaborations.
