The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) has announced its latest round of project grants, and four WASP researchers have earned starting grants:
Emma Tegling of Lund University, Dynamic fragilities in societal-scale networks
Pedro Zuidberg dos Martires of Örebro University, TrixCi: Matrix circuits and their application to tractable quantum machine learning
Noémie Jaquier of KTH, Deformable objects manipulation on Riemannian Manifolds (DefORM)
Giuseppe Belgioioso of KTH, Autonomous peer-to-peer energy trading: Scalability, robustness, and fairness
With a success rate of only 11%, this year’s was the most competitive since the founding of the research council starting grants in 2016. A total of 32 WASP-affiliated researchers across Sweden’s universities have been awarded the sum of 137,568,000 SEK in starting or continuing funding.
Grants awarded to WASP researchers represent more than 10% of the 312 awards in natural sciences and engineering sciences. Research in these areas generates new knowledge about everything from the smallest particles to the structure of the universe, and provides the foundation for the technical systems that drive industrial development. Natural and technological sciences also play a central role in addressing major societal challenges and advancing a more sustainable future.
Vetenskapsrådet supports basic research across the full breadth of these fields, including biology, chemistry, electronics, astronomy, biotechnology, and mathematics.
This year’s awards span multiple areas within artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software — reflecting the strength and breadth of the WASP community. Recipients come from KTH, Chalmers, Linköping University, Lund University (LTH), Umeå University, Uppsala University, and Örebro University.
Congratulations to all awardees!
