Continued high interest for WASP industrial PhD positions

There has been a continued high interest for WASP industrial PhD positions, both by partnering companies and potential students. WASP received 44 applications from a broad spectrum of companies, including some of the leading ones within the system building industry. Out of 44 applications, 20 industrial PhD students have now been accepted. All partnering universities are represented and earliest start for students is August 1st 2017. WASP signs Memorandum of Understandings with three leading international universities

Three international site visits within the WASP internalization program have been organized during spring. Visits have been made to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, Stanford University in California and University of California, Berkeley. Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) were signed with all three universities expressing the common interest with WASP to advance cooperation with focus on the mutual interests in research and academic programs, related to autonomous systems and software technologies. Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, and provides a platform for academic research and education, fostering interaction with Sweden’s leading technology companies. Umeå University makes massive effort on autonomous systems for industry and society of the future

The Kempe Foundations have granted two years of funding for eight postdoctoral researchers in autonomous systems in a major investment at Umeå University. Autonomous systems consist of software and infrastructure that together with humans provide increased functionality, sustainability, and efficiency for society, such as self-driving cars, industry robots, and socially intelligent computer systems that can help people in their everyday life.
