PhD student position in mathematics at the Department of Mathematics at Uppsala University.

About the position

The Department of Mathematics is now looking for a PhD student in mathematics, supported by WASP (Wallenberg AI Autonomous Systems and Software Program), to work on the project “Machine Learning Non-Euclidean Geometry”.  The successful candidate will work in the group of Geometry and Physics, which belongs to the research program of algebra and geometry. This group has close ties to the Theoretical Physics group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The research in this environment focuses on mathematical physics, mathematical relativity theory and symplectic geometry. The PhD student will undertake a research project at the intersection of mathematics, theoretical physics and computer science, with focus on the use of machine learning in string theory and geometry.

The project will be supervised by associate professor Magdalena Larfors, and will be in collaboration with Chalmers university and will be part of the WASP Graduate School.
