PhD position in mathematics for AI at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg.
Project description
The aim of the project is to contribute to our understanding of the mathematical principles underlying modern methods for machine learning. Several directions of the project are possible and will be determined in collaboration with the PhD candidate; topics of interest include but are not limited to analysis of learning algorithms, generalisation properties of deep learning methods, non-convex optimisation, stochastic networks and learning on graphs, and interacting particle systems.
The project is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). The candidate will be a part of the WASP cluster in AI/Math.
Students with a strong background in mathematics in general, and an interest in topics related to machine learning, are encouraged to apply. There are no formal requirements about previous experience in specific areas. Candidates from historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
