The Department of Mathematics at KTH is looking for candidates for a PhD position specializing in mathematics for AI. The research area lies at the intersection of computational statistics, applied probability and AI. As the project is funded by WASP, the doctoral student will also be part of the WASP graduate school.
In a wide range of AI and machine learning contexts, observed data become available sequentially through a data stream, requiring learning to be performed in an online fashion. The PhD project aims to develop and explore novel statistical computation techniques for online unsupervised learning in dynamical generative models and to gain mathematical understanding of such algorithms. The project is of relevance for students with interests in topics such as Bayesian statistics and applied probability, sequential Monte Carlo methods and variational inference, generative models and deep learning.
