PhD student position in mathematics for AI at the Department of Mathematics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
About the position
The Department of Mathematics at KTH invites applications for a PhD position in mathematics for AI, specifically working on theory for learning algorithms and deep learning. The successful candidate will pursue a PhD project at the intersection of probability theory, mathematical analysis, statistical physics and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on probability theory. The project is funded by WASP; the candidate will be a part of the WASP cluster in AI/Math.
The aim of the project is to build towards a theory for learning algorithms and deep learning using tools from probability theory, statistical physics, partial differential equations and gradient flows. More generally the aim is to investigate the role of stochastic control and stochastic calculus in the analysis of learning algorithms and deep learning. Several directions of the project are possible and will be determined in collaboration with the PhD candidate.
Students with an interest in one or more fields related to the following are encouraged to apply: probability theory, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, partial differential equations, optimisation, Monte Carlo methods, interacting particle systems, statistical physics, stochastic analysis.
