WASP AI/MLX is currently looking for active researchers at the WASP partner universities and Örebro University interested in developing and giving new PhD level courses in the area of AI/ML, especially but not exclusively related to the four focus areas. We expect each course to be developed and given by 1-3 researchers. It is encouraged, but not required, to form a group of teachers from different universities that together develop and teach the course. The successful applicants will receive funding for both the development and the teaching in accordance with WASP policies. The total amount of development time for a 6 ECTS course is expected to be around 150-450 hours in total (~10-30% FTE) and the total amount of teaching to be around 100-300 hours (~5-20% FTE).
The courses should be designed for PhD students in the AI/MLX to accommodate students with varying backgrounds that are geographically distributed. Previous courses have had three two-day joint sessions with local sessions in between, but other formats are also welcome. Modular courses that can be adapted to different groups and different number of credits are encouraged, but not required. Each course should have a strong connection to state of the art research in AI/ML and have well designed and well implemented examination. The examination could be in the form of exercises, labs, take home exams, projects, reports or other suitable forms. Each student should be individually assessed and given a pass/fail grade at the completion of the course.
If the application is approved we expect that the applicants design the course, develop the necessary course material, and give the course at least twice bi-annually according to the course schedule of the WASPGraduate School in AI/MLX. The first course is expected to be given in fall 2019. The number of students is expected to be in the range 20-40
on each occasion. The PhD students of the successful applicants will have access to the course. The teachers retain the right to the course material developed, but WASP has the permission to use and make improvements to it.
The applications will be evaluated based on the relevance of the topic, the quality of the course design, and the competence of the applicants.
The application should include the title of the course, the number of ECTS credits (we recommend 3-6); a description of the learning outcomes, the course content, the examination, and the course material you intend to develop (the more detailed the better, but we don’t expect it to be complete and finished); name, affiliation and CV of each applicant and a short motivation for why you want to develop the course and why you have the suitable background; and how many hours each applicant needs for developing the course. If the application is successful, the applicants are expected to personally do most of the development and teaching work.
The funding can only be used by named people approved by the PM AI/MLX.
