We invite you to submit proposals for workshops to be held at the annual WASP/WASP-HS/DDLS conference entitled “Research opportunities at the intersection of society, life science, and technology” set to be held 7-8 May 2026 in Uppsala.

The workshops are intended to foster discussion and exchange of ideas among researchers working across the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and technology. They are a gathering place for attendees with shared interests to meet to develop focused discussions; they also are an opportunity to find people who care about the same issues, questions, and research agendas as you and your research group.

The workshops may explore any topic of relevance to the WASP/WASP-HS/DDLS community, such as interdisciplinary methods, responsible AI, and the building of shared epistemic foundations that connect diverse ways of knowing across the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and technology. The only criterion is that the workshop must address a topic of shared interest across at least two of the programs (e.g., WASP and WASP-HS, or WASP and DDLS, or WASP-HS and DDLS).

Collaborations across disciplines are strongly encouraged, and we may be able to assist in identifying potential collaborators from other fields, if needed.
To submit a workshop proposal, please follow the link below and provide the following information.

  • A tentative title of the workshop.
  • The name and one-page CV of at least one and up to three primary organizers (ideally representing the different programs involved).
  • A brief description of the workshop and its goals.
  • A brief description of how the proposed workshop (i.e., the questions and topic) cuts across the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and/or technology.
  • A short description of how the workshop will be organized (e.g., interactive discussions, design sessions, or other engaging formats). Please note that participants should not be required to prepare or submit materials in advance.
  • A suggested room size/number of participants (even if it may be hard to anticipate how many people may join the workshop).
  • Any logistical and AV requirements (such as Whiteboard, Projector and Screen).

The length of the workshop proposal is maximum of one A4 page. Please submit your proposal as a single PDF file containing the one-page workshop description and the one-page CV of the organizer. Selected workshops will have a 1-hour time slot during the conference. Conference participants will be able to sign up for at least one workshop when registering for the conference. Once the maximum number of participants for a workshop is reached, the workshop will be unable to accept more participants.

Submission of workshop proposals: December 1
Notification for acceptance: December 19
Criteria for Acceptance: Workshop proposals will be accepted based on an assessment of how compelling the workshop will likely be for WASP/WASP-HS/DDLS attendees and the overall portfolio of proposed workshops. For this reason, no reviews for the workshops are sent to the authors. In particular, the selection committee will consider the following:

  • The potential for the workshop to stimulate discussions at the WASP/WASP-HS/DDLS conference.
  • The multidisciplinary value of the workshop.
  • In case of equally strong proposals, priority will be given to more junior organizers.
  • Gender representation will also be sought across the workshops.

Note: If multiple submissions are received on the same or similar topics, we will encourage merging proposals.
